Southside Business Men’s Club proudly presents our 8th Annual Car Show to benefit our Youth Achiever & JROTC Scholarship Programs. This annual non-profit Car Show fundraiser along with our annual Skeet Shoot and Yapp Golf Tournaments has raised and donated over half a million dollars to underprivileged youths in Jacksonville that are seeking higher education over the past decade.
This year’s car show is scheduled for Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 9 am –2 pm at Fields Cadillac, located at 7999 Blanding Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32244.
The Youth Achiever Scholarship
The Youth Achiever Program was established in 1994. The purpose of the program is to honor and recognize children who are striving to do their best to accomplish good deeds in their daily lives for themselves and others. We accomplish this by specifically honoring public elementary school children who are involved with the Safety Patrol at their school. Twice per year (spring and fall) the Southside Business Men’s Club affiliates with a Southside elementary school to assist with fundraising to help them meet their needs.
The money raised during our various events including the car show fundraiser will support parents and school administrators with needed funding for the children’s annual trips to Washington D.C. and our long-term charities accounts to provide college scholarships for those very same children.
In 2013 we began working with Robert E Lee High School’s NJROTC squad for various display events. In a conversation late that year, Commandant Rob Baldwin talked with Past President John Hamel about the challenges some cadets face finding scholarship opportunities for higher learning. The available scholarships are highly competitive and heavily weighted on overall GPA and grading. Many less advantaged cadets coming from single-parent households are strong cadets however spend their evenings caring for younger siblings while parents work off hours and sometimes 2nd jobs. This scholarship has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 but primarily focuses on cadet performance in JROTC. JROTC Cadets are eligible but must have volunteered for SBMC or its affiliates in some capacity during High School as a minimum qualification.
